EARLY CHILDHOOD:
As a child, I was full of energy, spending my days riding my bike and playing outside until the sun set. But everything changed in 6th grade when a move left me feeling isolated and sad. Suddenly, I went from being active to sedentary, and emotional eating became my coping mechanism.
The shift in my lifestyle also led to a growing discomfort with my body, and by 7th grade, I quit dancing because I felt too self-conscious in the leotards and costumes. In an attempt to regain control, I joined the field hockey team and track, hoping to get in shape and feel better about myself.
MY STRUGGLE WITH DIETS:
By 9th grade, I was desperate to lose weight and joined Weight Watchers, believing that if I could just reach that elusive "goal weight," everything would fall into place. This marked the beginning of a long journey through countless diets—Nutrisystem, Atkins, Paleo, SlimFast, Diet Pills, the Special K Diet—you name it, I tried it.
My weight fluctuated wildly over the years, and although I did reach my "goal weight" at one point, it was fleeting. The weight crept back up, and I found myself caught in a cycle of food obsession, constantly worrying about what I should or shouldn’t eat.
A NEW PERSPECTIVE:
In 2013, I decided to take control of my life and became a health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. There, I learned a powerful truth: a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work because we are all bio-individual.
This was a revelation, but my true transformation didn’t happen until 2018 when I read The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung and Delay, Don’t Deny by Gin Stephens. These books taught me that it’s not just what you eat but when you eat that matters. I embraced intermittent fasting and began working on my mindset, shifting my focus from the number on the scale to how I felt both physically and mentally.
FINDING FOOD FREEDOM:
In 2019, I deepened my understanding by enrolling in a course on Emotional Eating. Armed with this knowledge and my intermittent fasting practice, I finally found the balance I had been searching for.
I released 30 pounds without giving up the foods I love, but more importantly, I shed the obsession with food that had plagued me for so long.
Today, I no longer focus on dieting or numbers on a scale. Instead, I embrace a life of total food freedom, and my mission is to help other women do the same—finding a sustainable, healthy balance that works for them, allowing them to enjoy food and life without guilt or restriction.
